Writer’s Block
“Writer’s block sets in when we spend so long away from the pen that we become afraid of it.”
Jon Acuff
This is one of the toughest things to overcome. But honestly we don’t really need to overcome it. We just need to work through it. And keep working through it.*
Then keep working through it.
Until . . . .
Finally . . .
It’s gone.
Because we’ve been working all this time.
Jon Acuff goes on to explain, “It’s a cruel trick of life that the best way to beat the fear of a thing is to do that thing more often. If you’re having trouble writing your blog, write more blog posts. If you’re having trouble writing your book, write more chapters. If you’re having trouble writing your speech, write more speeches.”
You doing that thing will stop the attitude or mindset of you thinking you can’t do that thing.
It’s a weird concept but it works.
Jon (as if we’re best friends since I read all of his work) then closes by saying, “Production beats perfection.”
That’s how you defeat writer’s block. You simply write, or draw, or paint, or dance, or create in whatever area you want to overcome and triumph in.
