As Bad as You want to breathe
“When you want to succeed as bad as you want to breathe,
then you will be successful.”
Eric Thomas
Take a moment to clear your head and reset your heart, mind, and soul. Let’s do a simple breathing exercise. I guarantee it will help you and let’s face it, hopefully you’re going to breathe on your own anyways. Let’s just do it with a little bit of intention for the next few minutes.
Inhale for 4 seconds. Count it slowly.
Now exhale for 4 seconds.
Do that a few times. Seriously stop reading until you’ve done this exercise.
Now let’s focus on what you’ve just done. You’ve breathed in life with all its majestic mystery.
And you’ve breathed out the excess, or the carbon dioxide, or the things that you don’t need to carry on.
You took enough of a breath for the next few moments and soon, you’ll need another breath to get you through the next few moments after that. On and on and on . . . That’s how life goes.
Now, let’s get back to the quote above. Your success is tied to your instincts (the things you do without thinking about them). Your focus on success should be second nature. You should do things that move you toward more success. You should gather whatever is necessary and get rid of the things that are unnecessary so that you can continue gaining breath and continue having success.
If there were obstacles in your path to breathing, you’d naturally get rid of them. You wouldn’t have to fight for it. Your body’s impulses would kick in and you would do whatever possible to breathe again.
That’s how success should be. We should go after it so clearly and naturally that nothing could stand in our way. That’s the powerful thing about this quote and so many others like it.
Hearing that success is as easy as taking a breath is quite frustrating when you think about it but honestly it makes sense. Success is powerful and yet it is mysterious because one could argue that every single breath we take is a victory in itself. That’s not what the author is getting at but maybe we should shift our mindset a little bit to see just what success means to us. Because it is different for us all.
My encouragement for you today is to have success in all that you do and I want it to be as natural as the inhale you took to start your day and the exhale to end it at night. I want you to become powerful and yet still mysterious and that you have great success along the way.
